Attendance

The Importance of Consistent Attendance in ABA Therapy

At Inclusion ABA, we understand that life can get busy, and things come up. However, consistent attendance in ABA therapy sessions is crucial for your child's progress and success. Many insurance companies require an 85% attendance rate or better for BOTH your child's ABA therapy sessions AND your parent training sessions to continue covering ABA services. Maintaining good attendance is essential not only for your child's development but also for ensuring continued insurance coverage for their treatment.

Here's why consistent attendance is so important:

1. Building Momentum and Consistency:

ABA therapy relies on the consistent application of learning principles to build skills and reduce challenging behaviors. Regular attendance helps your child establish a routine, maintain momentum in their learning, and develop a strong foundation for progress.

2. Maximizing Learning Opportunities:

Each ABA therapy session is carefully planned to provide your child with individualized learning opportunities. Missed sessions mean missed opportunities to practice new skills, generalize learning to different contexts, and receive valuable feedback from our therapists.

3. Maintaining Progress and Reducing Regression:

Consistent attendance helps your child maintain the progress they've made and reduces the likelihood of regression. When sessions are missed, it can disrupt the learning process and make it harder for your child to retain and build upon new skills.

4. Strengthening the Therapeutic Relationship:

Regular attendance fosters a strong therapeutic relationship between your child and their therapist. This relationship is built on trust, rapport, and consistent interaction, which are essential for effective therapy.

5. Supporting Generalization:

One of the goals of ABA therapy is to help your child generalize skills learned in the clinic to other environments, such as home and school. Consistent attendance allows for more opportunities to practice generalization and receive support in applying those skills across different settings.

6. Efficient Use of Time and Resources:

Missed sessions can disrupt the flow of therapy and require additional time to review and re-teach concepts. Consistent attendance ensures that therapy time is used efficiently and effectively to maximize your child's progress.

What if My Child Needs to Miss a Session?

We understand that unexpected situations arise. If your child needs to miss a session, please:

  • Notify us as soon as possible: Call our office to let us know about the absence.

  • Communicate any relevant information: If your child is sick or experiencing any challenges that may affect their therapy, please let us know so we can adjust our approach accordingly.

Doctor's Notes for Illness:

To ensure that your child's absence due to illness is excused and doesn't negatively impact their attendance rate for insurance purposes, please provide a doctor's note upon their return to therapy. This note should confirm the dates your child was unable to attend due to illness.

We are committed to providing high-quality ABA therapy that helps your child reach their full potential. Your cooperation in ensuring consistent attendance for both therapy sessions and parent training plays a vital role in their success and helps maintain crucial insurance coverage for their treatment.
